3 Months!!!

Huggies size 2 diapers
0-3 onesies
Some 3-6 sleepers
0-3 pants (finally!)

I cannot believe he is already 3 months old! Where has the time gone?! Truitt LOVES bathtime and still hates being in his carseat. He is laughing a lot and the heartiest chuckles come while he's sleeping. He is still on 100% breastmilk; we have tried giving him pumped milk in a bottle and he is NOT a fan. He found his feet this month and rolled from belly to back for the first (second, third, etc!) time! He has also become very fond on sucking on his fist and fingers but still refuses a pacifier! Sadly this month we have also had our first bout with a cold/allergies and now an ear infection but I hopefully the weather will calm down and Mr Man will feel better!

Nighttime Baby Bath

I'm not sure if it's the bath or the wonderful smelling bubblebath and lotion but I love bath nights (normally every other day) because not only do they seem to calm baby boy, he smells SO good afterwards!

Little Noses Saline and Hospital Bulb Syringe

We have been dealing with nasal congestion for a month now! Nearly every morning he wakes up so congested he has a hard time nursing so when I lay him down for his diaper change I put some saline in his nose (which he hates), change his diaper, and then suck it out with the booger sucker (which he REALLY hates) but then he breathes great the rest of the day!

Bumbo!

Truitt LOVES to sit and stand and recently has started loving his Bumbo. We still are RIGHT next to him when he's in it but I think he enjoys the independence ;)

White Noise App for iPhone

This has been AMAZING.  It's actually a free app but it is priceless for us!  I downloaded it in the middle of a restless night but have used it many times since then.  Truitt hates his carseat and if we put the phone in the seat with him he calms.  We have also started co-sleeping in bed (we start out in there at least) and it seems to really soothe him and keep him snoozing for about two and a half hours.

My poor baby has an ear infection!

I had made an appointment to check with the doctor about the concerns I had and thank goodness we went.  In addition to those questions yesterday Truitt started doing something SOOO scary; he was asleep in his swing and all of the sudden woke up with a blood curdling scream, threw his arms out to the sides and arched his back.  I figured he just startled himself so I picked him up and nursed him and he was fine.  Today he did it in the swing again, twice when I was changing his diaper and once when E was putting him in the carseat to go to the doctor.  It is absolutely terrifying to watch.  Thankfully Dr Google actually didn't jump to worst case scenario and told me it was very normal reaction to reflux... T has never been a big spit upper- he maybe would spit up once a week but over the weekend he started spitting up a few times a day so it made sense.

So, we get to the doctor and they weighed him (with clothes since it wasn't a "well visit") and he is up to 13lbs 9oz!!! The nurse told us that he's probably just a few ounces lighter without clothes so he has gained a pound in a month!  When the doctor came in he assured me that my supply is fine otherwise he wouldn't be gaining like he is.  He said that Truitt is a "snacker" and is just eating a little bit each feeding so he gets hungry sooner and that's why he is still eating so often.  He told me I can start trying to space out feedings a little more so that he's more hungry so he eats more and stays full longer.  He assured me that the poop holding is okay and that as long as he's not straining, doesn't have a hard belly, and the poop is still unformed that everything is ok.  The reason why I'm not getting much from pumping is that my body doesn't have time to get much stored because he eats so frequently.

Next I told him how I have been needing to use saline drops once each morning because he's so congested and that the bump on his neck is still there and it started to get bigger over the weekend.  He told us that the congestion sounded like a cold with possibly allergies and then as he looked into Truitt's ears he found an early infection in his right ear.  He told us that it was probably only a day or two old and had we not come in today we'd be coming in the next day or two with a SICK baby.  He said that the congestion causes drainage that backs up and that's what causes the infection (NOT having the baby in the wind as my MIL accused!) and that having one now does not mean that he will continue to have them. I knew something wasn't right over the past few days! Monday he was very sleepy and napped all afternoon and last night I thought he felt warm but his temp was only 98.9.  So thank God I made the appointment and we found the infection before it had a chance to get bad.  We are giving him Tylenol for discomfort and then Amoxicillin for the infection.  As for the awful back arching- the drainage from the ear infection can cause painful reflux which is what was happening  AND why he just now started spitting up!  Dr L said there is a slight chance the reflux won't go away now but we will address that after the course of antibiotics.

I hope my baby gets better soon!!! (By the way-I think our pedi is the best ever!)

Pumping frustration!

Thank goodness Truitt hates bottles because I HATE pumping.  That hate comes from lack of results.  He ate from the right side and then after I showered I pumped both sides at the same time... I only got 1oz from the left (he ate from it about 2.5 hours before pumping) and .5oz from the right (ate from it 1 hour prior to pumping). WHAT?!!?  I'm pretty sure he's getting more than that while nursing because otherwise he'd be super skinny, right?  I'm going to ask for a recommendiation of a lactation consulant when we go to Wednesday's appointment.  The most I've EVER gotten was 3oz from one side but I normally average about 2oz between the two.

I went a week where I pumped every feeding to see if that produced more and it didn't.  I also tried drinking Mother's Milk tea and it made no impact on the pumping so I'm thinking it's not a production issue, it's just a pumping problem!

I'm using the Medela Pump In Style Advanced... I've also tried the Harmony hand pump and get the same amount only with a tired hand!  According to the website I needed smaller breastshields so I bought those and saw no change... I also got the softsheilds (target had them on clearance for $3.88!!) and those don't really help me get more out, they're just more comfortable.

When he eats he falls off the breast when he's done and has milk left in his mouth that he hasn't swallowed yet so that should mean he's getting enough...right?

He has an appt for a weight check (at my request) on Wednesday at 2:50

Calling the doctor in the morning.

I really want T to go in sometime this week for a few reasons...

1. Today is day SIX of no poop.  Each time he is holding it progressively longer.  His belly is still soft and he isn't straining and when he FINALLY goes it's soft, yellow, seedy, unformed breastfed poop.  I know Dr L told us last visit that it's normal for BF babies to hold it up to 7-10 days but did he mean all of the time or just every once in a while?  The first time he held it 2 days, then 3, 5, and now 6 and counting! Also, I'm worried that maybe he isn't getting enough milk and that's contributing to the lack of poo.  He still has wet diapers at least once every 2 hours during the day but I'm still concerned.  He seems to be satisified after eating but we are still feeding on demand and he eats on average every 1.5-2hrs during the day.  AND HOLDING IT SO LONG MAKES THE STINKIEST BABY TOOTS EVER!

2.  He has a bump the size of a corn kernel-maybe a little bigger, on the side of his neck.  I asked about it last visit but it was when E was holding him and Dr L asked if it moved while nursing and was soft and I said yes and he said it was a lymph node and normal but he didn't look at it since Truitt was asleep.  It hasn't gotten any smaller, or bigger, and he hasn't run fever or had any other symptoms of it being something else but I'm terrified it'll be something bad like cancer and I would have let it sit for another month had we waited until the 4 month appointment.

3. Congestion.  EVERY morning I'm having to put saline drops in his nose and then use the booger sucker.  I'm sure if it were a cold it would be all day long so my guess is allergies but I'm wondering if he can get any relief otherwise or if this is the best way.

So, that's it.  I don't necessarily need him seen first thing tomorrow but I'm not comfortable waiting another 5 1/2 weeks to have him seen.  So what if they think I'm an overreacting first time mom (I don't think they do but even if they do I don't care), he's my baby and I'm paying them to see him!

Thank you all for your support about my MIL.  I'm still mad about it!!!

Shaking mad!

Ever since we got pregnant my mother in law has expressed many times how she doesn't like breastfeeding.  She didn't try with either of her boys because she had no desire-WHICH IS FINE- so she doesn't understand why in the world we'd want T to be breastfed.  Any time anything is wrong it's ALWAYS because he's on breastmilk.  Gassy?  Tummy ache from my milk.  Baby Acne? Allergic to my milk.  Fussy?  Not satified with my milk.  Hungry? Not getting enough milk, he must be starving!  I've learned to be ok with it because it is the healthiest choice for US and I love nursing my son and he is thriving.  Anyway- she always asks if she can give him a bottle of water.  We tell her ALL OF THE TIME no and that all he needs and is getting until at least 4 months is breastmilk (I've recently read how some doctors are recommending skipping cereal because of the lack of nutrtional value and waiting until 6 months to do solids).  Lately she's started asking if she can give him mashed potatoes, gravy, ice cream etc.  I have explained NUMEROUS times that one, he's too young and it can't be very dangerous and two, that we don't want him having anything yet and once he does start solids we will decide what he can and can't have.

SO last night we were at their house for E's cousin's birthday party.  E's dad is holding Truitt and she kept saying she was going to sneak him cake and ice cream (I figured she was trying to be cute) and I repeatedly told her no.  SHE THEN STICKS HER FINGER IN ICING AND PUT IT IN HIS MOUTH.  As I yell NO! she swears there was nothing on her finger even though I saw it! Anyway I took my son away and went in the other room.

Regardless of if he was old enough for solids -WHICH HE ISN'T- we have asked many times for her not to give him anything.  What really gets me is that if she did this with me right there, what would she do if I wasn't there?!?!?!  I told E that I do not feel comfortable with her watching him right now unless we are there.  I know grandparents are supposed to give their grandbabies what the parents won't but there's a big difference between buying toys, ice cream after supper for a two year old and staying out late compared to giving a newborn food.

UGH!!!

Over the hump? **edited**

I realllllllly hope I don't jinx things but I have a had a happy baby for the past week and a half or two!  Granted, the colic shows its ugly face in the evening but we no longer are just sleeping, eating or screaming; we now have happy awake time added in there!  We have a lot of times where T and I just sit and talk to each other.  He LOVES being with family and is getting so expressive.  Sleep is slowly getting better too! We are sleeping in 3 hour stretches most of the time and even though it's only 30 minutes-hour longer than what we had been doing that helps a LOT!  Last weekend we put him in our bed and all 3 (well 5 including the dogs) slept for 3.5 hours!  I kept waking up to check on him but he did great.  I fed him, changed and swaddled him tight, layed him in bed (we scooted way down so our blankets wouldn't be close to him and I had a postitioner at his hips) and nursed him on the other side until he was sound asleep.  We haven't tried again because I don't want to disturb E each time Truitt wakes but we're trying again this weekend and if it works then we are moving back into bed!!!  AND today he took 2.5oz from a bottle for E!  Is it safe to say I think we're over the crying hump???

**Totally jinxed myself. He has been screaming for the past hour straight. This morning he has been sleeping, eating or fussing/screaming. At least I know he can be happy when he wants...

WE HAVE A ROLLER!

This morning during tummy time I looked down to clean my glasses and looked up seconds later and Truitt was on his back! I missed his first time rolling over even though I was sitting right there with him! I was pretty upset but since he's never been close to rolling and it's still so early I figured it was just a fluke.  A few hours later I layed him down on his tummy again trying to get some pictures of how cute he looks in his cloth diaper and babylegs and he did it again for me!!! I got pictures as he was starting but I was so excited when he did it I scooped him up and kissed him rather than taking the finished picture!

My baby boy is growing up!!!

HOW ADORABLE ARE THESE?!?!?

Our Week in Photos

***Truitt had his first real laugh on the 8th! He was in the tub and I went to wash his face with a sudsy washcloth and he had a belly chuckle! E and I both heard it together and it was perfect! On the 11th (during the pictures) he found his toes! We also officially switched to size 2 diapers this week. We probably had another week or so left in the 1-2s but we ran out so we moved a size up!***

Picture Proofs

The last time we tried to get Truitt's pictures taken it was a disaster.  He was only 3 or 4 weeks and he screamed and cried the entire time.  I found this photographer and she promised me she does wonders for babies and she really did!  She heated the studio before we got there, had floor heaters, and a white noise machine.  All Photos are copyrighted KLO Studio-2011.  They haven't been edited yet but I had to share!!!

It's a GREAT day!

Today I am officially one pound UNDER my starting pregnancy weight! Granted, my stretchmarks are still bright, my stomach hangs over my csection incision, I'm very squishy and I'm not fitting into my prebaby jeans BUT I weigh less now than I did at my first prenatal appointment!!!

*I promise my dog doesn't have fleas.. she's sneezing too so I think it's just allergies ;)
*Yes, I know I have annoying mommy voice!
*Yes, I know that a blanket doesn't do too much good if a dog is laying on it but she always follows him around.  Emma on the other hand likes to hide when he screams :)
*Yes, he is SLOWLY getting happier!!!!
