38 weeks!

Today is: May 28th, 2013

How far along: 38 weeks 1day

Total weight gain: 3.2 since last visit, 31.6 for the pregnancy. Last week I had lost 0.8 so I don't feel AS bad about 3 in one week.  With Truitt I was up 41.5lbs at this point so I at least feel better about this time.

Baby is the size of: A PUMPKIN approximately18.9-20.9 inches, 6.2-9.2 lb. My belly is only measuring one week ahead and with T it was measuring 2wks. Dr P is guessing he will weigh about 9lb at delivery.  My guess is 9lb 4oz and 21in long.

Baby is a: A BOY!

Maternity clothing: my maternity shirts aren't long enough to cover the belly panel any more and the "full sized" belly panels come up just barely over my belly button

Sleep: Pretty good. I wake up every 2-3 hours to pee until about 4am and then sleep until 7 or 8 when T wakes up but sleep hard when I am sleeping.  Days where I don't get to nap with T in the afternoon are rough for me though

Movement: Lots! A few cervical jabs that are painful but mainly big rolls that distort my stomach and lots of hiccups

Cravings/Aversions: Cravings? Anything. I'm starving

Symptoms:
- Emotions! I have burst into tears several times lately.
- Pubic Symphysis pain
-Getting the huge/tired/sore stage

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-No dilation.  Truitt dropped at 35wks and I started dilating .5cm/week. This time, Bennett is still high, I haven't dilated (well as of last week. I didn't ask to be checked today) and therefore I haven't lost any of my plug
-Because of that I think I'm physically feeling better.  I really don't feel like I'm to the "I'm done" point like I did with T.  My pelvis is still VERY achy but not nearly as painful as I remember it being with Truitt

The best moment(s) since last post:
-Bags are packed! Mine and Bennett's.  I still need to get Truitt's together for staying with Memaw and Pops though
-B's room is done!

I'm looking forward to:
-Meeting my baby boy in just 10 days!!!
-Enjoying this next week and a half soaking up as much Truitt time as I possibly can before he graduates from only child to big brother!

The picture shows 38wks with T on left and B on right!

35 weeks!

Today is: May 9th, 2013

How far along: 35 weeks 3 days

Total weight gain: 0.2 since last visit, 26.6 for the pregnancy. About 4lbs under total gain from this point with T. While I passed my 25lb goal Im still hoping to stay under how much I gained with him

Baby is the size of: A COCONUT approximately 17.2-18.7 inches, 4.2-5.8 lb. My belly is measuring 3wks ahead so he's probably at the upper end of those numbers. Dr P told me he expects him to be bigger than T was AND I had to get a steroid shot for poison ivy that can make him gain .5-1 more additional pound.

Baby is a: A BOY!

Maternity clothing: definitely

Sleep: has been terrible this week due to the poison ivy (which I have been exposed to countless times before but NEVER gotten a rash from until now) I have taken a nap with Truitt every afternoon this week though

Movement: Lots! Loving it.

Cravings/Aversions: Cravings? Donuts, chocolate, soda

Symptoms:
- Fatigue.
- Pubic Symphysis pain

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-Measuring 38w when I'm 35 (t was measuring 37)
-not feeling prepared.... I still need to organize his room, wash his clothes and get everything together

The best moment(s) since last post:
-Baby shower! (I'll try to post about it whenever I can get to the computer)
-Hitting one month til baby on the countdown

I'm looking forward to:
-Finishing his room
-Washing baby clothes

32 weeks!

Today is: April 18th, 2013

How far along: 32 weeks 3 days

Total weight gain: 7.2 since last visit, 23.2 for the pregnancy. So much for staying under 25lbs...

Baby is the size of: A SQUASH approximately 15.2- 16.7 inches, 2.5-3.8 lb.  My belly is (just like Truitt) measuring 3wks ahead so he's probably at the upper end of those numbers

Baby is a: A BOY!

Maternity clothing: Of course. I tried to wear a regular tshirt yesterday but tons of my belly panel was showing

Sleep:  Insomnia is finding its way back into my nights.  I'm also having a hard time staying comfortable and Charlie Horse leg cramps have started

Movement: Oh my goodness, is there ever! I don't remember Truitt's movements being so strong. He rolls, kicks, punches, jabs and I love (mostly) every minute of it. Things are starting to get uncomfortable with some movements but it is reassuring to know he's growing and active

Cravings/Aversions: Cravings? SnowCones of course, melon, chocolate, soda

Symptoms:
- Fatigue.
- Pubic Symphysis pain
-Irritability- sorry to my family and friends

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-Exhaustion. I know I was tired with Truitt but it seems that 3rd trimester has hit me MUCH harder this time
-Heartburn It comes and go but I swear this makes me think B is going to be a baldy!

The best moment(s) since last post:
-Lots of movement
-Hearing the shower preparations are in full swing- it's in two weeks!
-WE SET A DATE! Unless my body or Bennett have other plans, he will be arriving on June the 7th at 39weeks and 4days.. umm THAT'S ONLY 7WKS AWAY!

I'm looking forward to:
-Working on the nursery- yah, we still haven't started
-Baby shower!
-Getting ready for my baby boy and meeting him in less than two months!

The big VBAC (or not) decision

With Truitt I was induced at 39 weeks and 2 days.  He was suspected to be big, I was already 3cm, and I was in a lot of pain from SPD.  The induction went well and I had no problems dilating but he would never drop past -2 station.  We went on with the csection and my 9lb 12oz baby boy was soon in my arms safely.  Do I feel like I need a csection? Absolutely.  Had I not gotten an epidural and was able to labor squatting or on hands and knees, and had he been smaller, and had he been in a better position, and had my pelvis been better aligned then maybe he would have come out vaginally but there were too many things going against us.

I never felt like I was cheated.  I didn't feel like his birth was something to be ashamed of or traumatic.  I didn't hate the experience.  I gave labor a try and it didn't work for us so we did what was the safest.

Before we were TTC #2 I began looking into VBACs, vaginal birth after cesearan.  I felt like this was something I really wanted to pursue.  If I was proactive from the start then we could eliminate some of the issues that contributed to us needing a section.  If I followed a low carb diet, baby would maybe be smaller.  If I went to a chiropractor, my pelvis could be as open and best alligned as possible.  If I hired a doula, I could labor more freely and it better positions to assist baby in descending through my pelvis.

I knew I'd be faced with a major decision- our hospital and my OB do not allow VBACs.  The main reason being that while a VBAC mother is laboring, the OB must remain at the hospital in case of rupture.  When we were about 12wks pregnant we had a consult with one of the main VBAC doctors in the DFW area.  He told us point blank that out of all of the reasons why people have c-sections, that my situation (baby wouldn't descend through birth canal) is the least likely to successfully get a VBAC.  This was discouraging but hadn't taken away my hopes for a VBAC.  We didn't care much for his personality and didn't feel like it was worth switching out OB care to him with little chances of success and the next closest provider that is recommended for VBACs is over an hour and a half away.  Our plan was, with the help of my doula, I was going to labor at home until transition.  We would then show up at my original hospital, with my original OB, and hopefully be near delivery so since the Dr was already there then we would be able to finish with a vaginal delivery.

This all changed when they mentioned my anterior placenta at my elective scan at 17 weeks.  The chances of rupturing with a spontaneous labor are very low.  In a typical pregnancy with a posterior or fundal placenta, IF rupture were to happen, the placenta stays intact on the back or top of the uterus and you have enough time to get baby out even if you're at home when rupture happens since the uterus burst from the front bottom at the previous scar site.  With an anterior placenta, rupture is most likely catastrophic.  THE VBAC doctor (he's over an hour and a half away) in the DFW area- the one that will do VBACs after multiple c-sections, or breech babies, or multiples, etc, even discourages mothers with anterior placentas on VBACing and if they want to pursue them then he wants ALL of labor to be done in the hospital which is the opposite of normal VBAC recommendations of laboring out of hospital as long as possible.  This meant that there was too much risk to continue our plan. The final kink was thrown in the plan when we found out that not only was my placenta anterior but it was also previa which in itself requires a c-section.  Thankfully the previa has moved up but it is still very low lying and completely covering my scar.  If the scar goes, the placenta instantly loses bloodflow.

So, our new plan is to go forward with a c-section.  I am slightly disappointed but I know that once again in this situation that a repeat section is the best and safest for us.  I am still hoping to go into labor on my own so that I know Bennett is ready but that will only be able to happen if he decides he's ready before 40 weeks.  We will see how things go but hopefully this results in the best possible outcome of a healthy baby and momma!

29 weeks!

Today is: March 26th, 2013

How far along: 29 weeks 1 day

Total weight gain: 1.0 since last visit, 16.0 for the pregnancy!

Baby is the size of: An ACORN SQUASH, approximately 15.2-16.7 inches, 2.5-3.8 lb.

Baby is a: A BOY!

Maternity clothing: Of course

Sleep:  It is getting difficult to get and stay comfortable.  Rolling side to side is also now accompanied with some sharp pubic symphysis pain

Movement: Truitt and E finally felt him! His movements are getting quite dramatic and bounce my belly

Cravings/Aversions: Cravings? GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! Fruit, Soda, SnowCones

Symptoms:
- Fatigue. It has found me again
- Sore boobs They just won't let up- maybe that's from a 2 year old always climbing on them?
-Colostrum- I was worried it hadn't showed up yet but it's here now

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-Acid Relfux, or lack there of (knock on wood).  With T I was needing Zantac daily.  These days I just need some Tums here and there and rarely will take a Zantac.  Is B going to be a baldy???
-Showing While I have an obvious belly I think it's smaller than it was at this point with Truitt.  Not by a ton but I think I'm carrying B higher which is surprising

The best moment(s) since last post:
-Lots of movement
-Ultrasound today! It was just a quick check on the placenta with no pictures or measurements but it has moved enough to no longer require pelvic rest
-T and E feeling B move
-I became an Aunt again! My sister had her second little boy on Friday
-OFFICIALLY 3rd trimester

I'm looking forward to:
-Working on the nursery
-Baby shower planing
-Getting ready for my baby boy!

26 weeks!

Today is: March 5th, 2013

How far along: 26 weeks 1 day

Total weight gain: 15.2 pounds for the pregnancy, up 6.2 from 3 weeks ago-OUCH!

Baby is the size of: A HEAD OF LETTUCE, approximately 14 inches long and according to thebump 1.5-2.2lbs! We had a quick scan today but didn't get any measurements

Baby is a: A BOY!

Maternity clothing: Most definitely. A few non-maternity shirts and pj pants but that's about it

Sleep:  It has actually been pretty good lately.  I'm up 2-4times to pee but have been able to fall back asleep. I did have a nasty cold last week and took Tylenol PM two nigths

Movement: Yes! They're getting stronger.  It's still not as constant as it was with T but I feel him when I'm sitting or laying and occasionally when I'm standing

Cravings/Aversions: Cravings? Anything. I have gotten to the hungry all the time stage. Aversions? Nothing really

Symptoms:
- Achy. I'm now starting to feel heavy and pregnant
- Sore boobs
-Pubic Symphysis pain- it's just beginning.  The chiropractor has helped a lot but I still feel it when I'm moving in bed

How this pregnancy is different than the first:
-No colostrum.  With Truitt I was already leaking.  Nothing is happening yet

The best moment(s) of this past week:
-Lots of movement
-Ultrasound today! I had some spotting two weeks ago and had an ultrasound then to check.  At that point I had placenta previa.  Today we rechecked and it's still low lying but no longer previa!
-Truitt has been SO sweet hugging and rubbing my belly!

I'm looking forward to:
-Working on the nursery
-Baby shower planing
-E finally feeling him!
